We are seeking a compassionate and patient personal assistant to support a nonverbal autistic young lady with everyday activities. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to build a relationship of trust and understanding with the young lady and be able to support her with personal care in a dignified manner.
The personal assistant will also be responsible for supporting the young lady with social activities such as singing and intensive interactions and going out for drinks. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with a short attention span and be able to adapt to the young lady’s changing needs on a day-to-day basis.
The personal assistant will be required to work Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm during term time, with some flexibility. During school holidays, the personal assistant will be required to work from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm, with some flexibility. The personal assistant will also be required to support the young lady in using her talker machine and hand gestures to communicate, as well as using peg board pictures as needed.
Experience working with autistic children is preferred, but not required as all necessary training will be provided. The personal assistant must have a valid DBS check and be a non-smoker due to medical reasons.
